Hey Arizona! Hackerspace luminary and co-founder of Noisebridge Mitch Altman will be in the Valley over Thanksgiving weekend. Mitch will be hosting his world-famous Arduino for Total Newbies workshop at HeatSync Labs! Learn everything it takes to go from newbie to owning a completed TV-B-Gone. This mythical device has the magical ability to turn off all the TVs within range, through the wonders of Infrared, and you can create one with the guidance of Mitch.

The workshop will cover soldering your board, introductory Arduino programming using the BoArduino platform and finally modifying it in to a TV-B-Gone. Space is limited to 30 people for this workshop. This is a great stepping stone for anyone who wants to get involved with Arduino or microelectronics and who doesn't know where to dive in, so be sure to sign up ASAP!

Saturday 26-Nov, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Mission Accomplished: HeatSync Labs has a Laser Cutter!

More than six months ago, the HeatSync Labs community rallied together to raise funds for our very own laser cutter. After raising OVER 9000 dollars from our community and friends we ordered a laser cutter from China and began waiting. And waiting. Our champion Jeremy entered combat against the forces of US Customs and the FDA, who foolishly thought we'd use the laser for etching body parts medical purposes and sent it through the portal to The Inspection Nether.

It was a battle of epic proportions with much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Jeremy emerged victorious months later, holding a shipping invoice in his hands. And we had our very own laser cutter.

Congratulations go to the community who made this possible, including every one who donated to the fund, and everyone who put in their sweat, blood and time to make it happen.

However, the community still has much work to do before the cutter is operational and completely installed in the space. So, come on down to HeatSync Labs, check out our new toy and find out how you can help push this project to its final stage: AWESOME CUTTING THING OF AWESOME. We have electrical systems that need to be built out, documentation to write, and a laser to prime, calibrate and test. Whether you are a member or not, stop by any time during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 7-10pm, so stop by and lend a hand!

And remember kids, it's not a toy.

(Jun 25) Moving Day!

Moving Day! (Saturday, June 25th, 10am) @ HeatSync Labs at Gangplank

Many hours of hard work have been invested by our volunteers to help fix up and paint the former Glitter Box into the home of the largest hackerspace in the American southwest.  We still have much work to do, and this Saturday we'll be finishing our move from Chandler to Mesa, the city where HeatSync Labs first held its meetings at the F.O.P. Lodge in 2009.  We have a truck/trailer on loan for us to use for the move, but we need people to move stuff on and off of it and into the new space.  If you have a truck yourself, please bring it along and we'll be sure to put it to good use.

Once we've completed the move, future events will take place in Mesa starting Monday, June 27th.  Our grand opening will take place in early July once we actually have furniture for people to sit on.  Become a member today to make that happen faster!

HeatSync Labs at Gangplank is located on the northwest corner of Frye and Arizona at:
260 South Arizona Ave.
Chandler, AZ 85225
