HSL Meeting (Thurs Jun 30) 7:00 pm|az @ HeatSync Labs - Kipp Hall

Miranda Heard and our own Will Bradley will be hosting a hands-on presentation on how to change the flavor of things to make them taste either really great or horrible. We will have lemons, limes, and oranges but feel free to bring goat cheese and graham crackers to create key lime pie, strawberries, balsamic vinegar, grapefruit, coffee, tea, and any other sweet/sour things which Arizona-produced mberries will remove the sourness from!

Also, we'll be making liquid nitrogen fruit jello -- that's jello inside the fruit it tastes like!

All HeatSync Labs meetings are open to the public for free;  Cover charges are for Scottsdale night clubs!  If you really want to give us money though, t-shirts, membership and sponsorship subscriptions will be available and hustled aggressively by our volunteers.

HSL Meeting (Thurs Jun 16) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Commons Area

Join Austin Appel aka Scorche and the HSL crew for an overview of lockpicking techniques.  Topic covered will be internals and operation of basic locking mechanisms, how to exploit unavoidable imperfections present in the manufacture of these devices, and other related topics to serve as an introduction to this field.  After the presentation, we will host a hands-on lockpicking village.  There, visitors can practice picking locks in a hands-on setting and learn about many of the locks that are used to secure their home and business. Visitors are encouraged to bring any locks that they want to learn more about, either how to open them, disassemble them, or just learn what features they might have.  Tools will be provided if you do not already own a set.  If you have picks, be sure to bring them.  Have a padlock/safe you need opened?  Bring that too.  If you have any unused padlocks/locks/knobsets/etc, donations are accepted to be used in further workshops!

All HeatSync Labs meetings are open to the public for free;  Cover charges are for Scottsdale night clubs!  If you really want to give us money though, t-shirts, membership subscriptions, and Make: magazine subscriptions will be available and hustled aggressively by our Board of Directors.

Arduino Night (Wed Jun 1) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank – Rear Meeting Room

Come by and hack on Arduino boards with the HeatSync Labs and Gangplank crew this Wednesday night. Whether you’re just getting your feet wet in microcontrollers or build your own Arduino shields, you’ll have the company of a wide skill range of Arduino hackers to collaborate with, as well as a few HSL laptops with the Arduino software preloaded.

***BONUS*** Our friends at Microchip have supplied us with a sweet stash of chipKIT microcontrollers, which are 32-bit, Asuka-red, and mostly Arduino compatible!

HSL Meeting (Thurs Jun 2) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Commons Area

In one of the most marginalized community’s in the world, the Kenya Maasai Mara which lacks electricity, thousands of kids resort to lighting a fire at home to do their homework. The result is often eye damage due to smoke exposure and light strain. To advance education and create a brighter future for these special kids, join Megan Bednarz and HeatSync Labs as we discuss designing and building low-cost, portable solar-powered lanterns.

HSL Meeting (Thurs Mar 3) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Commons Area

Steven Bible from TAPR will be presenting on the ARISSat-1, an amateur microsatellite launched in January from the International Space Station--that is to say, from space!  The satellite will downlink live SSTV images from four on-board cameras as well as 24 greetings in 15 languages on the FM voice frequency 145.95 MHz. The BPSK-1000 sig downlinks as SSB on 145.920 MHz.  Telemetry and amateur radio call signs of those instrumental in amateur radio in space will be transmitted at 145.919 MHz. For the amateur radio operators there is a 16kHz wide transponder for two-way contacts. All of the transmissions and receivers use newly created software defined radio technology.
