HeatSync Labs is hosting a handful of coding events! If you have a project you'd like to hack on, whether it's HTML5, Ruby or any of those old fashion native languages (of which your editor is a diehard), come by the space and hack on something awesome!
Intro to HTML5 Game Development
This Saturday the 10th, join Luis as we dive in to game development in the browser! The presentation will cover the basics of building a browser based game using HTML5 and Javascript, and cover some tools and libraries that can help. The presentation will start at 7pm and afterwards there will be a general html5 hackfest.
Foursquare API Hackfest
Then next Saturday, September 17th, at 10AM join Fletcher Fowler for the Foursquare API Hackfest here at HeatSync Labs. Be sure to sign up and arrive early as we're buying donuts. From the site:
The growing foursquare community (over 10 million!) is spread out all over the world and it's about time we had a hackathon that reflected our global nature. So, join us over the September 17-18th weekend for a round-the-clock hacking session that's happening all around the world!
In addition to our four official sites (NYC, San Francisco, Tokyo, & Paris) we welcome developers everywhere to band together and build amazing stuff on the foursquare API. There will be prizes, swag, and featured blog posts for the best hacks, no matter where in the world they come from.
Electronic Music Night
The Electronic music scene shares a lot in common with the hackerspace scene; people playing with and sharing circuits that do awesome things. After a live performance at our One Year Anniversary Mustache Party, we are welcoming back Thru the Wires to HeatSync Labs for a presentation on the art of circuit bending and electronic music!
Whether you've dinked around with your own circuit bending patches, or you've never touched a synth in your life, Menagam and Dim will be showing off their art and how they made it this Thursday. Mengam writes:
I will be using a self made patch (MaxMSP) to manipulate my waves with a
random assortments of goodies, which will then manipulate video to the
tempo. The patch will be using max and jitter to create an audio/visual
image.
And Dim will be showing off how to use CMOS in your electronic music setups.
If you've ever had more than a passing fancy at doing your best Bit Shifter impression or just enjoy making loud scratching sounds, or even if you just want to sit back and learn how the pros do it, make sure you're at HeatSync Labs this Thursday at 7:00pm! If you're lucky there will even be some live demos by Dim and Menagam!
All HeatSync Labs meetings are open to the public for free; Cover charges are for Scottsdale night clubs! If you really want to give us money though, t-shirts, membership and sponsorship subscriptions will be available and hustled aggressively by our volunteers.

Mold Making and Resin Casting
Danny, from Downtown Mesa's very own Rusted Nail Gallery will be giving an overview of the art of resin casting. Whether you are looking for a way to create that little doo-dad for your next project, or a full sized replica of Bre Pettis's head, resin making provides an interesting solution to your problems, and Danny will be giving an overview of the mold making and casting process.
Resin casting provides hobbyists with an easy and cheap solution for model making, compared to large-scale solutions like injection molding. Stop by this Thursday at 7:00 pm to learn the art of mold making from one of our local artists!

HeatSync Labs is taking a step back to the 1980s this Thursday, July 21 and dragging out the Ataris, Intellivisions, Apple ][ and anything with 8 bits or less! Challenge the resident retro gaming masters at Ms. Pac Man, Frogger and countless other games that defined our youths while sharing yet another ascension story from the depths of the Mazes of Menace.
Bring a friend, bring a system, bring a game and have a night of fun while reliving some of the memories of youth. We'll be playing everything from the Atari 2600 to the Apple ][gs, to the Intellivision and the Sinclair ZX80. As a special bonus, HeatSync Labs board member Will Bradley will be firing up the oscilloscope and taking on challengers at a game of Tennis for Two, one of the first video games ever created. What was once a large array of vacuum tubes is now condensed on to a single Arduino and will be available for play this Thursday!

Moving Day! (Saturday, June 25th, 10am) @ HeatSync Labs at Gangplank
Many hours of hard work have been invested by our volunteers to help fix up and paint the former Glitter Box into the home of the largest hackerspace in the American southwest. We still have much work to do, and this Saturday we'll be finishing our move from Chandler to Mesa, the city where HeatSync Labs first held its meetings at the F.O.P. Lodge in 2009. We have a truck/trailer on loan for us to use for the move, but we need people to move stuff on and off of it and into the new space. If you have a truck yourself, please bring it along and we'll be sure to put it to good use.
Once we've completed the move, future events will take place in Mesa starting Monday, June 27th. Our grand opening will take place in early July once we actually have furniture for people to sit on. Become a member today to make that happen faster!

(Jun 18) Paint the Space!
Paint the Space! (Saturday, June 18th, 1pm) @ HeatSync Labs (Mesa)
Over the course of the week, we have steadily begun to transform the former Glitter Box space into a hackerspace. At the moment, its still covered in various inconsistent shades of pink and pastel greens and purples. We want to make the place a little more futurist-friendly, so to start that process off we'll be covering the painting some modernism into the space. Join us for a day of painting, followed by more painting.
We'll be hustling for donations to get the space furnished after the paint dries, so if you haven't yet, please donate now to make this happen. With enough funds to get the place furnished, we should be able to schedule Monday, June 27th as our final move-out day.

HSL Meeting (Thurs Jun 16) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Commons Area
Join Austin Appel aka Scorche and the HSL crew for an overview of lockpicking techniques. Topic covered will be internals and operation of basic locking mechanisms, how to exploit unavoidable imperfections present in the manufacture of these devices, and other related topics to serve as an introduction to this field. After the presentation, we will host a hands-on lockpicking village. There, visitors can practice picking locks in a hands-on setting and learn about many of the locks that are used to secure their home and business. Visitors are encouraged to bring any locks that they want to learn more about, either how to open them, disassemble them, or just learn what features they might have. Tools will be provided if you do not already own a set. If you have picks, be sure to bring them. Have a padlock/safe you need opened? Bring that too. If you have any unused padlocks/locks/knobsets/etc, donations are accepted to be used in further workshops!
