Location Data

I realized last night that we really should get an idea of where everyone is located before we start assuming that Tempe and the surrounding area is the best area for our hackerspace to end up. To assist in this I'm writing a small app that will parse a set of addresses into a polygon showing our coverage area on Google maps.  Locations will be randomized by 1/4 mile before becoming boundary points.  If you have an interest in attending the space and you live in the Phoenix valley, you can help us out by completing this survey.

Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time really think about the best location. I have similar issues with the Phoenix Ruby User Group (I’m the coordinator) and finding a spot that best serves the Phoenix area as a whole is not so easy. Something to keep in mind, though, is that raw geographic location doesn’t take into account travel time over freeways and side roads. I tend to think someplace in north-ish Tempe would work best, not because everyone is in Tempe, but because it jibes well with nearby freeways and approximates a central location. Curious to see what the poll produces.

Right you are James! We’ll defiantly be looking at transportation as well as centralizing the space. Expect to see the map go live within the next week.
