This Week: Arduino Night and Take-Apart Night
Welcome to September, kids! This week we have our Arduino night and our Meeting night back-to-back! Deets:
Arduino Night (Wed) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank – Whatever room we commandeer
Come by and hack on Arduino boards with the HeatSync Labs and Gangplank crew this Wednesday night. Whether you’re just getting your feet wet in microcontrollers or are Massimo Banzi, you’ll have the company of a wide skill range of Arduino hackers to collaborate with, as well as some HSL laptops with the Arduino software preloaded.
HSL Meeting (Thurs) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Commons Area
Have you ever fantasized about being Wall-E and sifting through piles of electronic waste to find some useful component nuggets you might eventually need for some kind of project you haven't thought of yet? Good news: We're recreating a post-apocalypctic landfill full of broken used electronics at Gangplank and welcome you to dig through the parts and maybe be a robot. Bring your old electronic junk and be prepared to bring some back with you.
All HeatSync Labs meetings are open to the public for free; Cover charges are for Scottsdale night clubs! If you really want to give us money though, t-shirts, membership subscriptions, and Make: magazine subscriptions will be available and hustled aggressively by our Board of Directors.

SyncFleet Launch: Great Success!

As many of you have known, HeatSync Labs entered Workshop 88's Hackerspaces in Space contest. After Noisebridge successfully launched their first nearspacecraft, HeatSync Labs established SyncFleet to challenge California's space prowess and bring together Arizona space geeks of every kind, some with successful nearspace projects of their own under their belts, to reach the edge of space. With the experience and expertise of a capable crew, we were able to build the HSL Majel Barrett nearspacecraft to withstand the harsh environment of the stratosphere and the smackdown of gravity that finishes the voyage. Oh, and it recorded video!
LIVE from Today’s SyncFleet Launch!
Hey girls and boys, if any of you are awake and bored, you can join SyncFleet LIVE via cybersauce from the comfort of your home or the parking lot of the bar you got kicked out of last night and just woke up in!

HeatSync Labs Begins its Colonization of Oregon
Well, sort of. One of HeatSync Labs's founders, SyncFleet director, local maker, veteran Defcon goon, and overall chill dude Rick Oooooo is moving to Eugene, Oregon. There, he will re-unite with his lady and hopefully bring the hackerspace movement to a city which so far just brings up pictures of cheerleaders and models on Flickr. Maybe he'll convince them to put down the pompoms for a bit and pick up a soldering iron! In any case, Rick will be missed by all and Your Humble Editor will be jealous of his new forested home state.
One more thing...
We will have a board position opening up now that Rick will be in the Beaver State (lol). The board is made up of hardcore mofos who work hard for free and have a passion for making HeatSync Labs as awesome as possible. If this sounds like you, we want you in our ranks. E-mail board at heatsynclabs.org with the subject line "Open Board Position" and let us know what l33t skillz you can bring to the table!
Saturday (Aug 28): SyncFleet LAUNCH!
SyncFleet Launch (Sat) 5:00 am|az @ Gangplank - HeatSync Labs HQ
SyncFleet is skipping Saturday morning cartoons this weekend and heading out to the desert to launch the Majel Barrett nearspacecraft that we've built to take pictures of the curvature of the earth from spaaaaaaace! If you're involved in the project, please let SyncFleet know if you'll be coming and if you'll be bringing a vehicle in advance in our Google group discussion. We'll be meeting up at 5 AM in the crack of dawn sharp, so please make sure not to party too hard on Friday.

Wednesday (Aug 25): A visit from Solido
Dialogue with Solido (Wed) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Aux Conference Room ( at the rear of the building)
Continuing our streak of 3D printing excitement, a few folks from Solido will be visiting us to open a dialogue on the present and future state of 3D printing, and basically ask the rest of the 3D printing community what its up to. If that community includes you, or if you just have an interest in 3D printing, this is definitely something you won't want to miss out on, especially since they will also be providing food for the event; For free, even!

Thursday: Printing Objects in Three Dimensions of WIN!
HSL Meeting (Thurs) 7:00 pm|az @ Gangplank - Commons Area
After several long months of sneaking plastic out of UAT, soldering and desoldering boards, and swapping out more parts than Swedish plastic surgeons, our brave team of renegade engineers has created the first working RepRap Mendel printer in the Phoenix valley area. It can print whistles, trendy hipster glasses, and LEGO-esque blocks! Our very own Jacob Rosenthal will be there to show us the ropes and guide us through the open source home manufacturing revolution!
All HeatSync Labs meetings are open to the public for free; Cover charges are for Scottsdale night clubs! If you really want to give us money though, t-shirts, membership subscriptions, and Make: magazine subscriptions will be available and hustled aggressively by our Board of Directors.
