There will not be a meeting this Thursday, due to everyone being busy drinking champagne* and partying like its 2009. Our next meeting will take place on January 14th, 2010, same bat time, at Gangplank in Chandler. Happy New Years!

* Remember kids**, no drinking and driving! Its a serious problem here in the MC and if you do it you'll be sent to Tent City--and I'm not talking about Toorcamp!

** By kids I mean adults over the age of 21 who probably act like kids when they drink.

T-Shirt Sneak Peek

The official HeatSync Labs T-Shirt is currently being mass-produced with the replicators we got from Starfleet in lieu of a 3D printer, and will totally be available at the next meeting, which will be at Gangplank in Chandler, and not Mesa.  What will these shirts look like, you ask?  Take a look:

Keep it classy, Arizona

New Meeting Space – With Our Powers Combined….

:drum roll please:

As another step towards our ultimate goal of having our own 24/7 space is a move to a new location -- Gangplank HQ in Chandler, AZ.

Gangplank is a local technology startup incubator with a great facility and wonderful community atmosphere. They have like-minded goals of education, community outreach and inclusion, and furthering technology in the Phoenix Metro area. Their usual operations including being open form 8-5pm M-F for businesses and individuals to come use their resources to conduct business. Wednesday nights they remain open for, what they call, Hacknight. We have been talking with their operations staff and they have welcomed us!

So starting in January, we will be meeting at Gangplank HQ.

Many of us have already been spending time at Gangplank, either on Wednesday nights or various other times. Its an awesome place, folks.

Things to Note:
Meetings will be the second and fourth Thursday of the month.
First meeting of 2010 will be January 14, 2010.

December 17th Meeting: Haptic Belts and T-Shirt Pre-Orders

Our next meeting will feature a presentation from our very own Spartan-monarch-style-Champion, Jacob, who will discuss a vibrotactile (haptic) belt concept that he and his team at the ASU Center for Ubiquitous Computing have been developing for situations where visual and auditory means of communication may already be clogged up by other sensory input, like Lucha Libre.  A very basic example of this would be a cell phone's vibrate mode.

Unlike a mere cellphone though, this is a belt that can activate up to sixteen points of vibration and torture ticklish people and it will totally be demo'd, so you can see it in action or wear it!

T-Shirts are still being printed, but if you'd like to pay for one in advance, you can do so at the meeting and it will be ready, waiting, and longing for the touch of your skin at the next meeting.  They look really nice too, its not some ghetto Cafepress cruft.

This meeting will take place at the F.O.P. Lodge in Mesa at 8:00 pm|az.  A half-hour operational meeting will take place at 7:30pm|az at the same place and will cover the latest news on everything the Board is doing to push HSL forward if you'd like to be updated on such things.

Tis’ the Season for a HeatSync Fundraiser!

As you may have noticed, we're added a thermometer-looking thingy to the front page on our website, except it measures money.  We're getting started with a $5k fundraising goal, which will be used to help build a solid financial base for buying things like basic equipment or even a space for a month or two.
We realize that you may still have some holiday shopping to do, but why buy Uncle Willy an automated tie rack when you could instead help us establish a hackers space so you can BUILD him one next year?  Also, orphaned puppies and kittens are counting on you, so donate today!***

*** 2009.12.27: UPDATE: It works now, you can give us money again. :) ***

*** 2009.12.12: UPDATE: Our Google checkout account is currently failwhaling.  We are working with Google to resolve this. ***
